September: The Acting Myth

Do You Believe the Acting Myth…

Myth: Acting brings you fame and fortune
Unfortunately this is not true. Instead, it’s fame and fortune that bring you acting opportunities!

When the studios were all first starting actors signed on as an employee. As an actor you did whatever films the studio gave you and you lived with a regular job. Today that has all changed. Now actors no longer sign on with just one studio. Everything has become project based. Sort of a Lone Ranger approach to filmmaking — everyman for himself. Due to this change it has become more and more difficult for actors to make a living solely acting in film. Actors have essentially become their own individual studios and it is up to them to find project after project to become involved in.

As an actor, first you need to ask yourself, “why am I acting?” If you cannot answer this simple question then you probably should find a new vocation. Second, you should ask yourself, “how much am I willing to sacrifice?” Becoming an A-List actor is no easy feat and the sacrifices made to becoming a professional actor are no match for a wavering determination.

To be an actor you have to be committed to pursuing opportunities and new acting gigs all the time. The hours are long, the time tedious, and the work daunting…but the reward is undeniably worth it all! There is nothing like walking out of a theater after your name scrolled through the credits, purchasing a DVD from Walmart that you starred in, or hearing news that you currently are on public TV in foreign lands. Being an actor is awesomeness defined.

So, where do you find these opportunities? Honestly, a large majority of casting calls are posted on Facebook. Join multiple “acting groups” on Facebook to hear about the latest films being made.

Go be a star!!
